Gay Christian?

By Bruce W. Robida

The Christian Church is supposed to influence the culture rather than be influenced by the culture. Over the last decade, we have seen more and more Christian Churches succumb to the pressures of society to be more inclusive and appear more loving and accepting. Christianity has been under siege from the inside as liberal ministers from many denominations have departed from Biblical truths and have replaced them with doctrines of demons. I could be writing about the decade’s long battle that has raged in Protestant denominations concerning Pentecostalism and the Word of Faith movement, but I have already dedicated a lot of time to that subject. No, this insidious infestation has to do with Christian Churches, priests and ministers who are willing to accept and affirm the homosexual lifestyle, even promoting that lifestyle as good, moral and now, biblically acceptable.

Enter, Matthew Vines. Born in 1990 and according to his website, Matthew Vines is the founder and executive director of The Reformation Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to reforming church teaching on sexual orientation and gender identity. In 2012, he produced a Youtube video "The Gay Debate: The Bible and Homosexuality" and in 2014 published the book, God and the Gay Christian.

After dropping out of Harvard, Matthew Vines spent the next two years researching the material that he has presented in his video and book, passionately asserting that "being gay is not a sin," and that the Bible "does not condemn, loving, committed same-sex relationships." He identifies six verses of Scripture that “have stood in the way of countless gay people who long for acceptance from their Christian parents, friends and churches” and has twisted each one, attempting biblically, to justify the sin of homosexuality.

These pages are dedicated to Matthew Vines and everyone who has bought into the lies that are misleading so many, giving them temporary comfort and relief as they give in to the sinful nature, listening to the father of lies rather that the Spirit of truth. Satan, in the Garden of Eden, questioned God’s Word when he said to Eve, “Did God really say…”? Matthew Vines, in the spirit of Satan has done the very same, questioning God’s Word, doubting “…the correctness of the traditional interpretation of Scripture on this subject.”

I will present Matthew Vine’s video and transcript, which will be helpful toward understanding the arguments that are often given as more and more Christians are either using them to justify their own sins or are becoming increasingly sympathetic toward those who do. Under the guise of compassion, it is easy to feel sympathy for those who feel as though they have no choice but to be gay. As Christians, we want to show love and compassion towards everyone, but it is also important to do it in the right way. Affirming what God has called sin, is not the right way. In the short term, it might seem like the right thing to do as the sinner gets the relief that he so desires, acceptance. But, in the long run, judgment will come to those who have called God a liar by denying what He has called sin.

After watching the video and reading the transcript, please take the next step and read A Response to Matthew Vines, an ebook edited by R. Albert Mohler, Jr. which is a free download in PFD format. It is 95 pages long and very helpful to everyone who is challenged by the arguments we often hear coming from liberal churches, priests and ministers.
